A volunteer program to help fill gaps in Department of Natural Resources enforcement efforts was discussed on Wisconsin Public Radio’s The West Side on Monday, August 28 at 10 a.m. on 88.3 WHWC-FM/ Menomonie-Eau Claire and 88.7 WRFW-FM/ River Falls.
Outdoor Guys Dave Carlson, former host of Northland Adventures, and Joe Knight, former outdoor editor for the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, discussed Green Fire with host Rich Kremer. Green Fire is a volunteer group of retired DNR and UW scientists aiding the local DNR with science-related duties. They work to temporarily fill in the gaps in between the agency and the public caused by staffing issues. The show also included a conversation about a warden exchange program with African nations initiated by a local warden, as well as an update on the giant butterflies invading western Wisconsin.
