Water Quality. – The quality of western Wisconsin’s drinking water is the topic of “The West Side.”
Host Clara Neupert invites La Crosse-based WPR reporter Hope Kirwan to the show, along with Kyle Burton, field operations director of the Bureau of Drinking Water and Groundwater with Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources. Lane Berg, the utilities manager at the City of Eau Claire, is also a guest.
The four will talk about issues regarding clean drinking water like PFAS, or polyfluoroalkyl substances, chemicals that can be found in water that are related to adverse health effects like increased cholesterol, cancer and thyroid disease. The guests will also discuss Eau Claire’s lead service replacement program and what other communities can learn from the city’s process to remove lead from their water.
