The State Capitol Report continues when WPR’s Superior-based reporter Danielle Kaeding brings us up to speed on new program cuts at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

9 majors, 15 minors and one graduate program will be suspended due in part to low enrollment, according to a university official. Affected majors include sociology, theater, journalism and political science. Some faculty members said they were blindsided by the announcement and upset that they weren’t consulted.

More than a dozen academic programs were suspended at UWS in 2014 to help address a $4.5 million budget shortfall. Since then, the university’s budget has been reduced to $2.5 million.

Are you a student, alum or faculty member at UWS? What’s your reaction to these academic cuts? Give us a call at 1-800-642-1234 or send an email to ideas@wpr.org. You can also tweet us @wprmornings or post on the Ideas Network Facebook page.
