Democrat Ron Kind, U.S. Representative from the 3rd District, joins Ross this week to discuss proposals he and other members of the House Ways and Means Committee are considering in aid of independent music venues during this time when they are unable to host live events. Many western Wisconsin arts stages have joined the new National Independent Venue Association (NIVA) in an attempt to make their voices heard.
Robert Baca, UWEC head of jazz studies, and Amber Scharenbrock, an intern with the program, talk with Ross about a music video produced by faculty, students and staff to honor the university’s proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic. One video, called “Time to Heal,” has been produced and another is in the works. In these videos Jazz Ensemble students are featured playing commissioned works by guest composers Adi Yeshaya and UWEC alum Aaron Hedenstrom.
Correspondent Katharine Thomas shares a conversation she had with Anne Katz, executive director of Arts Wisconsin, about Wisconsin’s participation in Make Music Day. The annual celebration is to take place on June 21. The two discuss the event, which also happens to fall on Father’s Day this year, and how plans were adjusted to accommodate the needs of social distancing due to the current pandemic.
