On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson walked to his position at first base at Ebbets Field, crossing over the color barrier and into baseball history. Not only did Robinson change the face of America’s pastime, his impact on the civil rights movement and legacy is celebrated to this day.
At 10:00 a.m. March 15, Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 features Robinson’s story with his daughter Sharon Robinson. She is an author of nine books, including The Hero Next Door, and the educational consultant for Major League Baseball. Sharon Robinson is in central Wisconsin sharing her books and her father’s history with students and the community with the A Walk In Their Shoes program. Later in the program, we’ll hear from Connie Sexauer, UW-Marathon County history professor and author of the forthcoming book From a Park, to a Stadium, to a Little Piece of Heaven, and Lee L. Willis, Chair of the UW-Stevens Point Department of History and International Studies.
