On February 15 at 10 a.m. Wisconsin Public Radio’s Route 51 takes an in-depth look at local relief efforts for the Caribbean island of Dominica after it took the full force of category 5 Hurricane Maria in September. Volunteers from central Wisconsin’s Good News Project will be traveling to Dominica in April to help its residents rebuild from the storm, which damaged or destroyed almost every building on the island. Host Glen Moberg will moderate a discussion with Christine Daniels, Good News Project executive director; Chuck MacCarthy, Good News Project co-founder; and Pat Peckham, a Good News Project volunteer and former board member who has made several relief trips to the island. The program will focus on the lack of attention Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are receiving from the media despite their continuing struggles in the aftermath of the storm. Good News Project is a Wausau based organization that engages in local, national and global community building.
