Recent reports that the Trump administration is pursuing agreements with Laos to coordinate the deportation of some Hmong residents is prompting concern and confusion within the central Wisconsin Hmong community. Shereen Siewert welcomes Chai Moua, of Stevens Point, and Yee Leng Xiong, of Weston, for a discussion on the potential impact the action could have on individuals and families throughout the region.

Moua is a Portage County supervisor who works for Freedom Inc., a nonprofit organization that helps secure legal protection for people at risk of deportation. Xiong is the executive director of the Hmong American Center and serves on the D.C. Everest School Board, the Village of Weston Board of Trustees and the Marathon County Board of Supervisors. In January, he was appointed to the League of Wisconsin Municipalities Board of Directors, an organization that provides advocacy, training and legal services to communities in the state.
