The American criminal justice system currently holds over 2 million people in prisons, according to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics. However, while the dominant idea is that our country needs to be tougher on crime, a recent report shows that incarceration has little to no effect on reducing crime rates in the long run. Our guest examines the effects before, during, and after incarceration and explains how decarceration efforts would impact crime.
