How White Kids With Privilege Learn About Race In America

Kids learn a lot about the world from the words and actions of those around them, especially their parents. But when it comes to how kids are educated about race…especially white kids…actions speak louder than words. That’s according to our guest sociologist this hour, who spent two years observing how white children in upper-middle-class families develop perspectives on race. We look at how parents shape those perspectives with their intentional and unintentional actions – think choosing a school district or driving across town to the “good” McDonald’s – and why it matters to the future of our country.
