The split of the Korean peninsula after World War II set off seven decades of ebbing and flowing animosity and occasional attempts at reconciliation between North and South Korea. Most recently, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un surprised the world when he announced in a speech that North Korea would be participating in the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea next month, as well as proposing talks between the two countries, which began this week. We’ll talk about the relationship between politicians and everyday citizens of one of the last divided, formerly united territories in the world.
