Norman talks to Violist Daniel Kim, one of the winners of 2011 Neale-Silva Young Artists’ Competition. Hailing from St. Paul, Minnesota, Daniel Kim began his musical studies on the violin with his parents, Ellen and Young-Nam Kim. As he became exposed more and more to the soulful sound of the viola through chamber music and orchestra, he made the decision to study it seriously in high school by taking lessons from his hometown teacher, Sabina Thatcher. Currently he is a senior studying the viola with Professor Sally Chisholm at the UW-Madison where he is pursuing a BA in music performance as well as a Certificate in East Asian Studies.
