At the turn of the twentieth century, adulterated and downright toxic foods were being sold throughout the United States. Poisoned candy and milk containing formaldehyde were poisoning children. Then, a chemist from Purdue University named Dr. Harvey Washington Wiley is assigned the task of assessing the safety of America’s processed foods — starting with honey and maple syrup.
