A family of Syrian refugees reunited Wednesday in Wisconsin after delays caused by a Trump administration order limiting immigration. The now-suspended federal directive temporarily blocked nine members of the Sofan family from flying from Egypt to join a relative in Sheboygan.
Immigration authorities had earlier approved the Syrian natives coming to the United States.
The family will receive housing assistance in Sheboygan from Ebenezer United Church of Christ. Associate Pastor Lorri Steward said the church will serve as a guarantor.

“So we are in relationship with the landlord and family for a least a year, and there are some mentorship things as well,” she said. “Building relationships with the neighbors.”
Other agencies are helping the family with employment, learning English, and other skills and needs, Steward said.
Despite the national controversy over refugees, Steward said she had no qualms about offering assistance.
“We’re called by the scriptures to care for the poor and refugees, the marginalized and the oppressed among us. It wasn’t that hard,” Steward laughed.
Steward said the church has seen and heard a few negative comments, including a Facebook posting asking why they aren’t helping homeless veterans. Steward said the church is called to reach out and assist everyone.
