The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has begun lowering water levels on a portion of the Upper Mississippi River.These so-called “drawdowns” have improved aquatic plant growth and wildlife habitats there.However, they may also be destroying freshwater mussels, a critical part of the river’s ecosystem.Danielle Kaeding reports…
