Rep. Duffy Unsure About Whether He’ll Vote To Extend Jobless Benefits

Congress is on recess, but at the top of its agenda when it returns is deciding whether or not to extend unemployment insurance for people who have been without work for more than six months.

That extension ran out late last month, stopping checks to 1.3 million Americans.

U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., said he’s not sure how he’ll vote, but he does have stipulations before he agrees to it.

“I want to make sure that those who may be dragging their feet a little bit to get back to work, (that) we’re getting them back to work,” said Duffy. “I guess I’m looking to see what proposal comes up so I can analyze it. When you don’t have a bill to look at, it becomes problematic and you’re speculating. I don’t want to do that.”

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and U.S. Rep. Ron Kind — both Democrats — said they’ll make it a top priority to pass the three-month extension.
