Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says Wisconsin is still in play for Donald Trump despite polls showing him behind.

At an appearance Tuesday in Stevens Point, Priebus told volunteers to work hard for the GOP presidential nominee and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson. Priebus said the national party hasn’t given up on Wisconsin.

“I think everyone should admit, this election has been like none other,” Priebus said. “And the electorate right now is very volatile. One week you have polls that say you’re 3 (percent) down, one week they say that you’re 3 (percent) up. I think it’s very volatile, and I think with two weeks to go, anything can happen, that’s why we’re still here.”

The Republican Party head compared Trump to Ronald Reagan, who had been discounted as a candidate in 1980.

“The bottom fell out,” Priebus said, “Once the American people decided, we believe that Ronald Reagan can be in the White House, and that last weekend before the election, the bottom fell out, and Jimmy Carter got crushed.”

Priebus downplayed the feud between Trump and Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, whose name was jeered at a recent Trump rally in Green Bay.

“Politics is not bean bag,” Priebus told reporters, “and Paul Ryan is one of the smartest, most articulate, pure hearted, great people in politics.”

Priebus told the volunteers in central Wisconsin is “an important part of the state” for Republican chances in November.
