With a name inspired by the First Amendment, 1A and host Joshua Johnson explore important issues such as policy, politics, technology, and what connects us across the fissures that divide the country. The program airs Monday through Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the Ideas Network and is produced by WAMU in Washington, D.C.

A Way With Words

"A Way With Words" is a nationwide public radio show about language examined through history, culture, and family. Co-hosts Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett talk with callers from around the world about slang, grammar, old sayings, word origins, regional dialects, family expressions, and speaking and writing well. All Things Considered

"All Things Considered," hosted by NPR's Robert Siegel, Melissa Block, and Audie Cornish, and WPR's Brady Carlson, is an afternoon drive news program. For more than 35 years "As It Happens," CBC's popular current affairs program, has explored the heart of stories from across the world. Ask Me Another is the rambunctious show from NPR and WNYC that blends brainteasers, pub trivia, comedy and music into an hour of mind-bending fun. At The Edge

The BBC Newshour delivers interviews, news and analysis of the day's global events. It airs weekdays at 3 p.m. on WPR's News & Classical Network.

BBC World Service

"The BBC World Service" is the world’s leading international radio broacaster. It provides impartial news reports and analysis in English and 27 other languages.The programs range from news, education and entertainment and have a reputation for being authorative, impartial and accurate. It can be heard weekdays on the Ideas Network from 11:30pm to 6:00am and weekends from 11:00pm to 6:00am. The BBC World Update can be heard on the News & Classical Network from 4:00am to 5:00am weekdays.

BBC World Update airs weekdays from 4am to 5am on WPR's News & Classical Music Network. The program is designed to serve U.S. audiences and brings additional news perspectives to your morning routine.

Classical Music with Peter Van De Graaff

Beethoven Satellite Network

Host Peter Van De Graaff plays music from all eras, focusing on works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods. All selections are programmed from a library of over 75,000 records and CDs. Van De Graaff provides a deep understanding and distinctive view to classical music during the night hours.

BETA

"BETA" comes from producer/host Doug Gordon. "BETA" is a polyphonic mosh pit where high culture and low culture collide, taking an immersive, innovative, playful and provocative approach to exploring arts, culture and technology. The program airs Saturdays at 9 a.m. on the NPR News & Classical Network and 11 a.m. on The Ideas Network.

Bullseye with Jesse Thorn

"Bullseye with Jesse Thorn" is a show about what's good in popular culture. Jesse hosts in-depth interviews with brilliant creators, culture picks from our favorite critics and irreverent original comedy. Each week, the guests on Bullseye include performers, artists, and authors who are shaping and documenting our culture right now. Bullseye is produced by National Public Radio and can be heard on the Ideas Network on Sundays at 11 a.m.

Central Time

"Central Time" takes a unique approach each hour to cover a mix of topics, finding the latest news, cultural trends, and exploring ideas -- big and small -- to find the best guests to discuss these thought-provoking topics.It can be heard weekdays on the Ideas Network from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Chapter A Day

Started in 1931, "Chapter a Day" is WPR's longest running program. Hosts read a chapter from a book each day. Genres range from works of fiction, history and biography, and are read in half hour increments. "Chapter A Day" can be heard weekdays on the Ideas Network at 12:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Classical 24

Classical 24 is a nationally syndicated classical music service dedicated to live classical music programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hear it on WPR's All-Classical Network.

Classical Music

Produced and hosted by WPR's knowledgeable and enthusiastic music staff, our daily programs feature a wide variety of classical music drawn from WPR's vast music library, plus live performances from our studios and concert recordings made around Wisconsin. Classical Music can be heard each weekday on the NPR News and Classical Network from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weekday evenings starting at 8 p.m. On weekends you can enjoy classical music from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sunday evenings starting at 8 p.m.

Classics by Request

Host Ruthanne Bessman plays listener's classical requests and also features several special shows, such as the annual Oscars show and several kids' programs.

Listeners can submit their requests online or call in during the show. "Classics by Request" can be heard on the NPR News and Classical Network Saturdays starting at 10 a.m.

Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin

"Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin" delves into a wide assortment of topics in classical music. Each five-program series builds off a single theme, ranging from composer biographies to explorations of various cultures, musical styles, and time periods. Host Bill McGlaughlin guides listeners through the music by providing special insights that he draws from his experience as a musician, conductor, broadcaster, and composer. "Exploring Music" can be heard weeknights from 8 to 9 p.m....

Fresh Air

"Fresh Air" with Terry Gross presents intimate conversations on contemporary arts and issues. The probing questions, revelatory interviews, and unusual insights break the mold of a traditional talk show. "Fresh Air" can be heard on The NPR News and Classical Network weekdays at 7 p.m.

From the Top

"From the Top" celebrates the energy of America's kids and the power of classical music through NPR and PBS broadcasts, live events, education programs, and more. Based in Boston, "From the Top" is an independent non-profit organization that celebrates the power of music in the hands of extraordinary young people, reaching more than one million people each year. "From the Top" can be heard Sundays from 8 to 9 p.m.

Garden Talk

Join host Larry Meiller every Friday at 11 a.m. on WPR's Ideas Network stations as he discusses gardening topics with his guests. The Saturday morning "Garden Talk" at 7 a.m. is an encore broadcast of the first hour of the previous day's show.

Hear Me Out

"Hear me Out" is a news and public affairs program focused on events and issues in Northwestern Wisconsin. It is hosted by KUWS News Director Danielle Kaeding. The program airs on Fridays at 10am on WPR stations 91.3-FM KUWS in Superior and 90.9-FM WUWS in Ashland. It is repeated Friday evenings at 7pm on WPR stations 89.9-FM WHSA in Brule, 88.5-FM WSSU in Superior and 104.7-FM WHWA in the Washburn, Ashland and Bayfield areas....

"Jazz Network" delves into the world of mainstream jazz. Aficionados and novices alike will enjoy the unique insights of hosts Greg Bridges & Lee Thomas. "Jazz Network" can be heard Friday and Saturday nights.

Jazz Night In America

Through music, story and conversations, "Jazz Night in America" ushers listeners from the front row to the backstage for an insiders’ look at jazz. The one-hour show is hosted by multiple Grammy Award winning bassist, composer and educator Christian McBride and speaks to jazz aficionados and casual fans alike. This program is heard at 9pm on Friday evenings on most WPR News & Classical Network stations.

Jazz Odyssey

Jazz Odyssey takes listeners on a voyage through the current transitions and styles of jazz. Host Chris Kuborn introduces listeners to new styles and artists that they may not have been previously exposed to.

Kalihweyo'se

"Kalihweyo'se," hosted by Chris Powless, strives to create a sense of community for Native American people and strengthen community ties in Northeastern Wisconsin. Listeners hear traditional and contemporary Native American music which includes rock, folk, country and rap genres. "Kalihweyo'se," which means "good message in the Oneida language, began on Wisconsin Public Radio in 1999 and is produced through the support of the Oneida Nation Arts Program. Latino USA

Latino USA, hosted by Maria Hinojosa, produces multimedia journalism that explores and gives a critical voice to the diversity of the American experience. This program can be heard Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on the Ideas network.

"Live From Here with Chris Thile" features great musical guests and entertainment to keep you company each Saturday night. Thile offers humor and insight to help you escape and celebrate the everyday worries of life. Listen to the live broadcasts online, on The Ideas Network and NPR News & Classical Network each Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Marketplace

"Marketplace," hosted by Kai Ryssdal, targets the latest developments in both national and international business, the global economy, and wider events linked to the financial markets. The program is known for its timely, relevant and accessible coverage of business, economics and presonal finance. "Marketplace" can be heard on the NPR News and Classical Music Network weekdays from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
