Wisconsin Governor tuned into tuition debate

Governor Scott Walker is suggesting he’ll pay close attention to a UW tuition vote expected this week in Milwaukee.

The governor never finished college himself, but his older son is graduating from high school this week, and plans to attend a university. His younger son will graduate from high school next year, and hopes to attend UW-Madison. So when the UW Board of Regents looks at raising tuition more than five-percent this fall, the governor is interested.

The UW says the tuition hike is needed because state aid is falling relative to inflation. But some student groups say another tuition increase would put a big pinch on family budgets.
