Travel Returning To Normal After Storm

Friday PM: Travel is slowly returning to normal after much of southern Wisconsin was hit with a major snow storm.

Things are looking up this afternoon for drivers, as roads and highways are mostly plowed and covered in salt.

Wisconsin Emergency Management spokesperson Scott Liebur says road crews still have some work to do.

“We are still getting reports on a lot of back roads in certain counties, still a lot heavy drifting as the plow crews are focusing on the main roads,” he says. “There are still a number of people in outlying areas that can’t get out of their houses, can’t get out of their driveways.”

Temperatures are supposed to drop tonight, which could make roads slippery.

The Amtrak’s Hiawatha line from Milwaukee to Chicago is running on schedule again. A spokesman says storm delays will last for a couple days on the eastbound Empire line that runs through La Crosse and Milwaukee.

Bus lines, like Megabus and Greyhound, are experiencing slight delays.

Departures out of Milwaukee’s Mitchell Airport and Dane County Regional Airport are mostly running on time.
