An elected official in the Town of Tomahawk was ticketed for disorderly conduct after police say she threatened a member of the public after a town meeting.

Dona Jahn, 84, has been a supervisor for the rural town for decades. At a July 9 public meeting, she was heard saying of a member of the public: “If I had a gun, I’d shoot him.”

Jahn said she did say it, but didn’t intend it as a threat and didn’t mean for others to hear her.

“I whispered that to a friend who was sitting right alongside of me,” she said. “I never said it out loud at the meeting, and I’m sorry I even whispered that to her.”

Jahn said she’s considering resigning from her seat.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do. I doubt if I’ll stay on the town board any longer,” she said.

The target of her remarks was Mike Mackin, who was at the meeting about a bill from the town for a fire call. Mackin had been burning without a permit.

Mackin said he hadn’t received the bill from the town. But he said was on his way to the back of the room to write a check when he heard Jahn’s comment. He said he turned around and said, “Excuse me?” When no one responded, he called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office after the meeting.

Jahn said she doesn’t have a gun and wouldn’t even know how to load one.

The Tomahawk Leader first reported the citation.
