Tom Barrett Praises Federal Court Ruling On Voter ID

Milwaukee Mayor Says He Expects Appeal

By

Leading state Democrats are praising a federal court ruling today on Tuesday that found Wisconsin’s voter ID law to be unconstitutional. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says the law, which has been suspended for about a year, has now been blocked by state and federal judges.

“So it strikes another blow at an attempt to make it more difficult for legitimate voters to vote,” said Barret. “While I expect an appeal, it really throws into question whether this law can be used in the November elections.”

The state Supreme Court may still rule on the voter ID law, which Republicans say they passed to reduce fraud at the polls.

Barrett says if Gov. Scott Walker is still thinking about a special legislative session on election laws, it should be one to ease the burden of the GOP’s recent restrictions on early voting.
