Two groups that describe themselves as progressive are hitting back at Republicans trying to unravel the Affordable Care Act.
In Wisconsin and nine other states, the health care advocacy group Protect Your Care will join with Americans United for Change to conduct what they call a "positive information campaign." The goal is to counter critics and encourage people to enroll in the online marketplace where health insurance will be sold.
"There's been a perception that Democrats and progressives have been on defense on Obamacare," says Brad Woodhouse of Americans United for Change. "We're going to wipe it away."
The groups will operate in 10 states that they believe have high enrollment opportunities for the health exchanges. Joe Zepecki, a consultant working with the groups in Wisconsin, said during a conference call that their role will be to tell people what's currently in the law and how they can sign up for coverage.
"We'll be working with local partners to spread that news," said Zepecki. "We want to get the word out how this law is going to impact people's health care."
Zepecki says the health care campaign could include rallies and appearances at congressional offices.
