La Crosse-Madison Power Route Narrowed

By

American Transmission Company has narrowed down the route options for a major energy transmission line project that would stretch from the La Crosse to Madison areas. Many communities along the routes still have questions about the Badger Coulee line.

ATC’s preferred route mostly runs along Interstate 90-94. The alternate would cross rural parts of Monroe County before meeting up with the Interstate.

Both routes travel through Lyndon Station, which opposes the project. They’ve also asked the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to look at alternatives.

Lyndon Station President Dave Klicko says he wants explanations since he says the line could hurt the community, “Why are we building this? Do we really need it? Are there other alternatives? That’s where it’s been really frustrating for a lot of people, municipalities, and taxpayers is trying to get that information in.”

ATC spokeswoman Kaya Freeman says they’ve proven that the project is necessary, “We’ve produced more than 1200 pages of information for these local groups to review. We’ve had a two year process and we’d like to think we’ve done a very good job at trying to get as much information to people in advance of our application to the Public Service Commission.”

The PSC will ultimately decide on whether to approve the project and which route it would take.
