Keith Posley Named Interim Superintendent For Milwaukee Public Schools

The Milwaukee School Board has tapped a Milwaukee Public Schools administrator to serve as interim superintendent.

The district’s Chief School Administration Officer Keith Posley will step into the role May 21.

Current Superintendent Darienne Driver confirmed her departure from MPS earlier in the month. She’s stepping down to become president and CEO of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan on July 6.

Posley has a doctorate in educational leadership and a certificate of advanced studies in administrative leadership from National Louis University. He has previously held the roles of assistant principal and principal.

A member of the district’s administration since 2003, Posley’s current role in the district includes the promotion of “safe and secure learning and working environments” for students and staff.

“My initial focus is on a strong end to the school year, working with the board to achieve a balanced budget, and making sure there is a strong start to the new school year,” said Posley in a statement.

Posley said there are challenges ahead as the district tries to improve student outcomes adding that reading, math and writing need to be the focus of the district.

“The board looks forward to working with Dr. Posley to ensure the stability and continuity for MPS students, families and staff during this time of transition,” said school board president Mark Sain in a statement.

MPS is the largest district in Wisconsin with more than 75,000 students enrolled.
