Have you ever listened to an album for the first time and just new moments into the first track that it was just really, really good? The new 2021 release by the Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble is even better. Better yet, I was tempted to overload last Saturday’s broadcast with it.

“2009 Finnish guitarist Janne Halonen traveled to Benin, West Africa, to study the rhythms of Voodoo. He became friends with a master percussionist/singer, Noël Saïzonou, and the idea of a band planted. In 2021 has performed in 17 countries and is preparing for the release of its 5th album.”
I’m impressed for sure, and I believe you will be too. And before I forget, this release is uniquely diverse in content and construct – the musical signature of some talented musicians.
