The family of Dontre Hamilton, an African-American man killed by Milwaukee police last year, is criticizing Gov. Scott Walker’s recent comments on the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
During one of the stops for his presidential campaign, Walker rejected the idea of specifically meeting with representatives of the movement. Walker said “who knows who that is” when asked about whether he’d have such a meeting, and said he “meets with voters.”
Nathaniel Hamilton, brother of Dontre Hamilton, is an active participant in the Black Lives Matter effort in Milwaukee. He said Walker is being disrespectful.

“He’s saying that we as people aren’t voters,” said Hamilton. “We contribute to the vote. We care about the vote.”
Hamilton pointed out that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has met with representatives of the movement. He said he hopes Clinton will meet with the efforts Milwaukee leaders when she campaigns in the city next month.
Walker’s campaign did not respond for comment.
