The state Public Service Commission this week might spell out more details of an evaluation it plans to do on the rise in fixed energy charges on electric bills.
The PSC has been giving electric utilities most of what the companies want in terms of increases in monthly fixed charges to consumers. In fact, the group RENEW Wisconsin said the commission has allowed some of the highest increases out of 35 fixed-rate cases nationwide.
The PSC is promising to look at the impact of mandatory monthly rates. Tyler Huebner, of RENEW Wisconsin, said consumer groups should be part of that discussion.

“We want to make sure that the Public Service Commission and their staff certainly will be involved, the utility will certainly be involved, and we hope other organizations have an opportunity to weigh in so that we can make sure the analysis and the study really provides the best value it can on the issue,” said Huebner.
Bob Seitz, the PSC’s executive assistant, said the commission isn’t promising a formal study on fixed rates. He said the evaluation will be mentioned in a written order for a case involving a Green Bay utility, Wisconsin Public Service Corp.
