Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke said that Republican allegations that she copied her jobs plan slowed down her campaign, but she says she handled the situation appropriately.

The jobs plan included a few passages that were copied word-for-word from Democrats in other states. The Burke campaign fired the consultant who worked on the plan.

Burke was asked at a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial board meeting whether that slowed her campaign’s momentum.

“Sure, it had an impact,” she said. “But you know, there’s three weeks to go in this. This is how politics goes. This is how campaigns go.”

Burke said the race would remain close and would be decided by turnout. A Marquette University Law School poll released on Wednesday showed her tied with Gov. Scott Walker among likely voters.
