Key stakeholders say they’re close to a deal on funding a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks’ owners have asked the state of Wisconsin, the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to pay half the cost of a new $500 million arena. For the past several months, the state has been negotiating with the city and county over who should pay what.

Emerging from a meeting in the governor’s office at the Wisconsin State Capitol on Tuesday, Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin told reporters that he was optimistic.

“I think everybody’s on the same page. We’re all trying to get this done. So we are optimistic,” said Feigin.

Time could be running out on negotiations, at least if lawmakers hope to pass a Bucks arena deal as part of the state budget. The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee hopes to finish its work this week.
