Argyle Woman Remains in Hospital with Severe Burns

An Argyle woman is still hospitalized after being severely burned in a house fire her husband is accused of setting.

More than half of Sharon Wand’s body had the worst burns possible: 3rd degree. So far she’s had four operations.Wand is now speaking and yesterday was able to see the two-year-old daughter she rescued from the September seventh fire. The Wand’s three boys died in the blaze. UW Madison Burn Center director Dr. Lee Faucher says Wand is improving after being critically injured.Faucher said Wand hasn’t had complications like infection or pneumonia and could be released in a month.

“But the recovery is long after that,” he says.”Your skin, the burned/grafted skin doesn’t get back to normal for 2 years.So it’s really a long recovery but that doesn’t mean a person can’t get back home orwork. As far as some type of normalcy, it takes a long time.”

Faucher says Wand only recently learned the details of the tragedy. “Obviously she is saddened knowing that lives were lost in this fire but she has great motivation and is participating in the therapies she needs to. Everyday she is doing more and more things on her own to continue her rehabilitation.”

Authorities have charged the woman’s husband with arson, murder and attempted murder for allegedly setting the firethat killed the couple’s three sons. The brother of Armin Wand lll also faces charges for allegedly helping set the fire.
