Poll Shows Support For Obama Down in Wisconsin

Obama To Visit Waukesha On Thursday

By

As President Barack Obama plans the State of the Union address on Tuesday night and heads to Waukesha on Thursday, a new poll shows his job approval rating slumping in Wisconsin.

A Marquette University poll conducted last week asked 800 registered Wisconsin voters if they approve of the president’s job performance. Only 44 percent said yes, while 50 percent answered no. The negative numbers reverse slightly positive numbers in an October poll.

Marquette pollster Charles Franklin said there could be a link with plunging new poll results for the Affordable Care Act, following problems with the roll out of the health care exchanges.

“In October, (the impression of the ACA) was more unfavorable than favorable, 48-42. Now, it’s 35 (percent) favorable, down quite a bit, and unfavorable up to 56, also a pretty big spike,” he said.

Franklin said the latest national polls for the president also show his job approval rating below 50 percent.

The president has a chance to warm his national support on Tuesday night when he delivers the State of the Union address and revive his standing in Wisconsin on Thursday, when he visits an engine plant in Waukesha.
