Wisconsin’s largest airport says passenger traffic continues to grow, in part because of additional nonstop flights.
Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport saw more than 628,000 travelers in July, according to newly released figures from Milwaukee County, which owns the airport.
That’s up 2.2 percent from the same month last year.

The airport has added 10 nonstop destinations in the past year, which has given passengers more options, said Melissa Baldauff of the county executive’s office.
“We are going to Portland, we’re going to four new locations in Florida, including Tampa area, Orlando area and Miami,” she said. “We’re going to Nashville. We’re going to Salt Lake City. We’ve added international service to Guadalajara, Mexico.”
General Mitchell Airport saw more than 4 million passengers between January and July, 2.4 percent higher than the same period in 2016.
The airport is on track to have its highest number of yearly passengers since 2012.
