Lead Tests For Bullseye Glass Neighbors Come Back Clean

Lead test results are in for nearly 200 people who live and work near Bullseye Glass in Southeast Portland. So far, none of them shows lead levels that would require medical care or follow-up.

Multnomah County’s health department provided free screening for 192 children and adults last Friday and Monday. Those tested include kids enrolled at a day care facility where high lead levels were measured in early May. Those readings prompted the state to issue a cease-and-desist order that brought Bullseye’s production screeching to a halt for 10 days.

The county says lead levels for all of them were in the low range. County health officer Dr. Paul Lewis called the results reassuring.

More screenings are planned, including a Thursday session from 1 to 5 p.m. in outer Southeast Portland. Any pregnant women and kids younger than 6 can attend.

Bullseye has proposed several remedies to the state so the company can restart production, but so far, none has been accepted.
