POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides technical and on-air operation support for content creation at Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR). Reports to the Operations Manager within the Engineering & Operations Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- A. Precisely executes technical aspects of live radio shows
a. Mixes live, on-air audio for WPR talk shows.
b. Sound designs production pieces and selects appropriate musical transitions.
c. Coordinate the logistics and participate in executing special programming as assigned, including evening, weekend, holiday, and remote work.
d. Writing and voicing copy
B. Monitors programming for audio quality and correct operation, including proper transmission of Emergency Alert System and Amber Alert System tests.
a. Records, edits, mixes, and archives audio elements used during broadcast.
b. Assists with automation scheduling.
c. Performs basic testing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to ensure smooth operation of broadcast equipment.
d. Follows the Radio Operations Center (ROC) checklist and completes tasks by their scheduled time.
DEGREE AND AREA OF SPECIALIZATION
No Degree Required. High School Diploma preferred
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION
-Minimum of 2 years experience working in live production with a focus on audio.
-Experience using DAWs to edit and record audio is required.
NOT REQUIRED BUT DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
-Knowledge of public radio, experience with WideOrbit or other radio automation software, Axia AOIP consoles, Adobe Audition, ProTools or other DAWs.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WORK SCHEDULE
The Radio Operations Center (ROC) is open from 7:45am to 5:45pm on weekdays split into shifts. The hours of this position can vary slightly within these parameters totaling 40 regularly scheduled hours per week. Network Operators collectively share coverage of extra shifts that arise due to special events such as Member Drives, elections, and holidays.
One of these two positions will serve as the primary Network Operator to The Morning Show. Standard hours for that shift are from 5am-1pm on weekdays. The second position will primarily work within regular ROC business hours.
