Milwaukee Officers Fatally Shoot Man After He Allegedly Fired Gun

Milwaukee police say two officers responding to a street fight fatally shot a 37-year-old man after he fired a gun.

Police say the shooting happened Sunday night on the city’s north side. Police say in a statement the officers were responding to “a large fight” with armed suspects on a street.

The Police Department didn’t release the name of the victim, but relatives told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the man shot was Anton Springer, who was legally blind from diabetes. His godmother said the shots he fired before being killed went up in the air to break up a large fight and that he did not mean any harm.

It wasn’t clear from the police statement whether the man had fired his gun in the direction of the police officers.

Police say the two officers involved in the shooting are both men. One is a 24-year-old with two years of experience and the other is a 26-year-old with five years of experience. They are on administrative duty pending an investigation.
