The verbal battle over President Obama’s gun control plan continues between Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke. The two men appeared on a national cable television program Tuesday night, to discuss Clarke’s recent radio ad calling for more citizens to purchase firearms. Barrett says Clarke was wrong to suggest that the mayor should have had a gun with him when he interceded in a family dispute near State Fair Park in 2009.
Barrett also says rational people see the merits of requiring criminal background checks for more people who want to buy guns. Clarke released a statement claiming universal background checks would have little or no impact on gun violence.
