Medical College Selects Locations For New Branches

The Medical College of Wisconsin has chosen the satellite locations where future doctors will get trained in the classroom and at health clinics.

The state has two medical schools, both in urban areas. A plan for satellite campuses by the Medical College of Wisconsin hopes to ease a doctor shortage in rural areas. Dr. John Raymond is president of the Medical College of Wisconsin. He says the new campus locations would be ready by 2015, “I think this sends a clear statement to the citizens of Wisconsin that the Medical College of Wisconsin wants to help by expanding the opportunities for training the next generation of physicians who will be committed to underserved areas of our state.”

The Medical College of Wisconsin is putting one of the campus in De Pere, at St. Norbert College. President Tom Kunkel says planning for a new science building was in the works when they applied to be a satellite campus for the medical school, “It’s a nice piece of serendipity. But it’s a big project. This is going to be a $41 million renovation and expansion. We’re going to take the existing building and gut it. And build completely new.”
