  • CTE Diagnosed For The First Time In Living Patient

    Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, is a degenerative brain disease found in people subjected to repeated head trauma, including athletes in contact sports. For the first time, it has been diagnosed in a living patient, and was then confirmed after death. We talk with a specialist about what this advancement might mean for prevention and treatment.

    The research was undertaken by a team of scientists, led by Dr. Bennet Omalu, the CTE researcher whose work was the subject of the 2015 movie “Concussion.” While not named in the study, family members have revealed that the patient was Fred McNeill, a former linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings who died in 2015.

  • Major Violence Prevention Report Released In Milwaukee

    After more than a year in the making, the city of Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention released its long-awaited “Blueprint for Peace” report, which lays out comprehensive goals and strategies for preventing and reducing violence in the city.
