Week In Review: The Trump administration is proposing to cut the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by a quarter. As Danielle Kaeding reports, Great Lakes mayors say the cuts could have disastrous effects on water quality and the regional economy.
The U.S. State Department held a public hearing in Bemidji Tuesday on its environmental review of a pipeline expansion across the U.S. – Canadian border. Canadian firm Enbridge Energy needs a presidential permit to send more oil across the border through one of its pipelines.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating “chemicals of concern” that were discovered in Newton Creek in Superior. DNR biologists have been monitoring the creek since they discovered fish deformities there last year.

Douglas County has an idea of how they’d like to develop a fairgrounds parking lot in Superior. The site could potentially offer 82,000 sq. ft. of retail and more than 120 housing units. Olivia Shalaby has more.
More cops may be turning in their badge as an increasing number of public safety workers are reaching retirement age in Wisconsin. One northern Wisconsin police department is set to see a third of its officers become eligible for retirement over the next three years. Danielle Kaeding rode along with one Superior cop who’s hanging it up after 26 years.
