The Midwest may be in the throes of winter, but most of the Great Lakes are open water. Danielle Kaeding reports the Madeline Island Ferry is still making runs to the mainland.

The University of Minnesota in Duluth has been awarded around $600,000 from the National Science Foundation to study internal waves in Lake Superior.

Federal funding to refugee resettlement programs has been halted by President Donald Trump’s temporary travel ban. Trump’s executive order placed a 120-day temporary ban on refugees entering the United States. Ross Terrell reports.
