In 2017, after 31 years at WPR - including 14 as host of the award-winning “The Joy Cardin Show” - Joy announced her retirement and said goodbye to her many fans around the state. At a ceremony on Oct. 27, 2023, Joy was inducted into the Milwaukee Press Club’s Hall of Fame, honoring her many accomplishments and contributions to journalism and public service in the state.
“Although I never had a chance to hear Joy on air, I recently met her at a station event and I experienced the same warmth, curiosity and intelligence in person that made her such a beloved radio host,” WPR Director Sarah Ashworth said. “On behalf of everyone at WPR, I want to congratulate Joy on this terrific honor. She was a talented host and producer who helped Wisconsinites connect in so many ways.”
“I learned so much about radio from working with Joy, and being part of her team was always a joy,” WPR’s “Central Time” Host Rob Ferrett said. “I especially appreciated her genuine love of the people and places of the state, which always came through on the air. I'm very happy to see this very well-deserved recognition!”
