Gov. Scott Walker is asking the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to declare several southwestern Wisconsin counties as disaster areas because of storm damage.
Severe storms, flooding, and six tornadoes pummelled an area that includes Grant County and parts of four nearby counties in mid-June.
An SBA Assessment team will need to tour the region to see if it qualifies for assistance. Eric Ness, who directs the SBA’s Wisconsin District, said help is potentially available for businesses, home owners, and renters.

“Some of our money can also be utilized to help prepare for future disasters, so that if you have to do some things so that flooding or whatever won’t happen again, our program can help utilize that,” said Ness.
Ness said he doesn’t have a timeline as to when the assessment team will come to a decision.
