Hacker Prints Swastikas On UW Campuses

Anti-Semitic flyers containing swastikas have been found on campus printers at University of Wisconsin-Madison and UW-Milwaukee.

The printer attacks occurred last week, when a hacker used printers connected to the Internet to target thousands of sites, including Princeton, Brown and the 2 UW schools. A man named Andrew Auernheimer claimed responsibility in a blog post.

Mark Potok is a senior fellow with the Southern Poverty Law Center in Alabama, which tracks hate groups.

“He is fairly well-known as what he’s described himself as: a white, nationalist hacktivist,” said Potok.

UW-Madison Police say staff at two campus buildings reported the flyers after finding them on printers. Cybersecurity experts have identified the IP address involved in sending the racist, anti-semitic and anti-gay flyers. UW-Madison officials say that Internet address has been blocked.
