A Wisconsin professor suggests we consider the difficulties that military families separated from loved ones endure when in discussion about migrant families. We learn more about the affects of separation on children and what we can learn when we compare. We also take a look at the future of abortion with a changing Supreme Court bench and how public opinion has changed on the issue. Plus, a guest explains why he thinks America will need more immigrants as the country ages.

  • Looking At The Impact Of Family Separation Through The Lens Of Military Parents And Kids

Over the last month, the one news story that seemed to tower over all others was the Trump administration’s policy of separating undocumented immigrant children from their parents at the US-Mexico border. While the president did sign an executive order in late June aimed at ending the separations, questions still remain about how we got here, and what impact these separations might have on these children. To help understand the possible impact, our guest social work researcher says we should look to the experience of military families, and the impact of a deployment on a parent-child relationship.

  • As America Ages, Does It Need More Immigration?

As America’s white population ages, its contribution to the economy and workforce will be changing. Is immigration the answer to filling that void? Our guest talks about the demographic shifts immigration is brining about and what it means for the economy.
