Federal Officials Say Thousands Haven’t Signed Up For Marketplace Health Insurance

Federal officials say that tens of thousands of Wisconsin residents haven’t yet signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Marketplace.

Kathleen Falk, U.S. Health and Human Services regional director, said the enrollment deadline is next Sunday. Falk said the largest share of those who haven’t enrolled are younger adults.

“(The group consists of) 19 to 35 year olds,” she said. “So, if you’re a mom, dad or grandparent out there … now is a good time to remind your young invincible in your life that they’ve got five days left to shop, and they can shop on their smartphones.”

Falk also said that so-called “navigators” are available to help people sign up. In some Wisconsin counties this week, health insurance enrollment events are being held.

The Obama administration said that in Wisconsin, 182,000 people have signed up through the marketplace system.
