Transportation Budget Will Slow Fox Valley Highway Project, Lawmakers Say

Amanda Stuck Says Delays Will Hurt Area Economically

By

Two Fox Valley lawmakers are blasting the Joint Finance Committee for a move they say will delay completion of a major highway interchange. The measure came as part of the committee’s transportation budget.

The interchange connects U.S. Highway 10 and state Highway 441 in the heart of the Fox Valley. According to Appleton Democratic Rep. Amanda Stuck, the $390 million project is already underway. But Stuck said the budget move will slow work down by at least two years, meaning work might not be done until 2021.

Stuck said the delay will make the project more expensive and will have an economic ripple effect.

“Today I actually heard from a town supervisor in Menasha talking about how this will increase their costs as they’re moving their police and fire services across the town,” Stuck said.

Stuck is calling on the Legislature to override the committee, but she said she’s not optimistic that will happen.
