Douglas County Residents Begin Assessing Wildfire Damage

By

Some residents in Douglas County are starting to check on their properties after the Germann Road Fire burned nearly 9,000 acres.

Scott Peloquin of Chippewa Falls drove to his family’s cabin near Solon Springs this morning but nothing was left: “There’s not one piece of wood remaining in our cabin or any of our sheds. All that’s left is just metal.”

Peloquin says his family plans to rebuild, but it will take time to clean up the mess. He says the area where he grew up is now nothing more than a wasteland: “All that beautiful country… I’ve never seen it like this before. It’s horrible.”

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources say the fire is nearly contained but it’ll likely take days before all fires are out.
