Air Date:
Heard On Central Time

We’re joined by a news editor to recap the week’s most important state news stories, including Russia’s role in Wisconsin’s last election. We also talk with an author about her decision to have a preventative mastectomy after testing positive for a gene mutation that makes breast cancer far more likely.

Featured in this Show

  • State News Roundup For September 29, 2017

News editor Robert Mentzer rounds up the top Wisconsin news stories of the week.

  • Dealing With A Strong Likelihood Of Breast Cancer, With Humor

Stand-up comic Caitlin Brodnick watched many relatives die from cancer, and then found out that she herself carried a genetic marker that made her very likely to develop breast cancer.

Caitlin chose to have a preventive double mastectomy, and shared her journey through an online documentary called “Screw You Cancer,” and now in a new memoir, “Dangerous Boobies: Breaking Up With My Time-Bomb Breasts.” With irreverent humor, and disarming candor, she shares the ups and downs of the surgery and recovery.

What would you do if you found out that you were genetically prone to breast cancer? Would you consider preventive surgery, or would you take your chances? Would that knowledge affect your decision whether to have children?
