Congresswoman: While Clinton Lost In Wisconsin, She’ll Still Win Nomination

While Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton failed to win Wisconsin’s primary on Tuesday night, many of her Badger State supporters, including U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, say she is still on her way to winning the party’s nomination.

Although Clinton lost to rival Bernie Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, and he has won six straight primaries and caucuses of late, those victories don’t change the election calculus, according to Clinton backers.

Moore, a Democrat from Milwaukee, said she was disappointed her home state didn’t go to Clinton, but that the former secretary of state, U.S. senator and first lady, is still far ahead in the delegate count. Moore said she is confident that won’t change.

She said she spent Tuesday talking to people lined up at the polls and says she was proud to lots of young voters.

“Every young person that I talked to who said they were ‘feeling the Bern’ also said — without my kibbitzing them at all — that they were very much prepared to vote for Secretary Clinton in the fall,” she said.

Moore said that Sanders supporters can vote for Clinton this fall knowing she has spent a lifetime “leveling the playing field for people and breaking down barriers.”
