Complaint: Manifesto Suspect Wrote Apology Before Gun Theft

Recently filed court documents show Joseph Jakubowski wrote an apology to the owner of a Janesville gun shop that he’s suspected of burglarizing before the theft last Tuesday.

Jakubowski is the 32-year-old Janesville man suspected of stealing firearms and threatening attacks in a manifesto sent to the White House. He’s been the subject of a manhunt since the April 4 burglary of Armageddon Supplies, and he remains a fugitive.

A criminal complaint filed yesterday in Rock County charges Jakubowski with stealing 18 guns from Armageddon Supplies.

The complaint says the letter was found at the home of Jakubowski’s sister. In it, he apologizes for the theft and says he needed the weapons to protect himself and his family. Rock County sheriff’s officials say Jakubowski threatened to attack schools and public officials in the 161-page manifesto that he mailed to President Donald Trump.

Jakubowski remains at large, with the search for him entering its ninth day. On Tuesday, the FBI announced that it was doubling the reward for information that leads to his arrest, bringing the total to $20,000.

WISC-TV reports that Gov. Scott Walker’s office is taking extra precautions for public events.

Authorities also released a modified mug shot of Jakubowski with his head and facial hair shaved because the FBI believes he may have altered his appearance.
